Why is a Potluck Lucky?

Move over the postage meter!

AT THE SUGGESTION of Assistant Editor Beth, we decided to launch a series of monthly office potlucks. The first was held Friday, May 7 with a theme of “picnic.” We trotted out the checkered table cloth and all brought picnic-related food. Someone ran to Ralphs for a 12-pack of Coronoas. It was a big success.

How to determine future potluck themes? Why not secretly write down ideas on slips of paper and pick them out of a hat — which is what we did for 10 minutes or so following lunch. Shhh….some of my secret picks were “Food that begins with the letter L” and “Dishes mentioned in rock songs.” Hey, life is short, eat creatively!
